A CALL TO ACTION

O To Be Like Thee
Thomas O. Chisholm (1897)
1. Oh! to be like Thee, blessed Redeemer,
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,
Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.
Refrain:
     Oh! to be like Thee, oh! to be like Thee,
     Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
     Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;
     Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.
2. Oh! to be like Thee, full of compassion,
Loving, forgiving, tender and kind,
Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,
Seeking the wand’ring sinner to find.
3. Oh! to be like Thee, lowly in spirit,
Holy and harmless, patient and brave;
Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,
Willing to suffer, others to save.
4. Oh! to be like Thee, Lord, I am coming,
Now to receive th’ anointing divine;
All that I am and have I am bringing,
Lord, from this moment all shall be Thine.
5. Oh! to be like Thee, while I am pleading,
Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love,
Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,
Fit me for life and Heaven above.
If you just finished this lesson and have felt your heart stirred, that is the working of the Holy Spirit in you.  The Holy Spirit takes the truths from God’s Word and brings them alive in your heart.  Possibly, there is something in this lesson of LifeLine that has stuck in your mind/heart.
*  I want to encourage you not to put what you have read down and forget it.
*  As you have time, pick it up and read it again, if you have a Bible, find the Scriptures that we have printed out for you.  Read the parts of the scriptures surrounding these verses, for as you read, think and meditate, your spiritual “eyes” of understanding will be opened, and growth will happen in your life.
*  But most of all pray.   If you do not understand all that you have read, ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart to understand more – He will.  Talk to Him, thanking Him for who He is and what He has done for you personally.  Look for His working in your life. Jeremiah 29:13 says, “And ye shall seek me [God], and find me [God], when ye shall search for me [God] with all your heart.” We are promised that He will make Himself known to us if we have a searching heart.
Friend, if you have never asked Jesus to be King of your life, now is the time.  Are you ready to let Him be your Lord and Savor and allow Him to be in charge? 2 Corinthians 6:2 says, “…now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”  You can’t wait for a different day, for you do not know the number of your days.
Maybe you think that you must first clean up your life and then you will be able to accept God’s free gift of salvation.  You and I cannot make ourselves good enough for salvation, nor can we work our way to earn salvation by doing good things.  “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”  Ephesians 2:8-9.  Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Salvation is only through one man and that man is Jesus Christ.
Friend, you need to turn to Him, don’t put it off for another day.  Admit that you are a sinner, tell Him what you have done and ask for His forgiveness. The Bible promises us in 1 John 1:9 that, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I encourage you to make a quiet place in your heart right now, talk to God as if you are talking to the person beside you.  He is waiting to hear from you. He will give you peace and freedom that you have never known.
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36
